Powdertech Surface Science emphasises environmental credentials with ISO 14001 certification
Powdertech Surface Science has underlined its commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices by achieving ISO 14001 certification, approved by LRQA. The company’s Operational Director Phil Tyler says: “As a business, doing things the right way is important. Over the past four years we’ve invested £1.6 million in our facilities and, perhaps more importantly, invested in our team through recruitment and extensive staff training.’’
He continues: “The knowledge and commitment of our Manufacturing Engineer Richard Knight has been crucial to us gaining full accreditation. He organised and implemented the physical measures required throughout our business and set up systems to ensure that the necessary documentation is up to date at all times. Our work towards ISO 14001 was supported throughout by independent management systems consultant, Jan Atherton, an expert in ISO certification who’s expertise and assistance was invaluable.”
To achieve ISO 14001 certification, Powdertech regularly monitors and reviews control measures to drive continuous improvement. These efforts are tracked through green KPIs to ensure that the processes align with the company’s environmental goals. Notably, Powdertech dedicates an average of 4-6 hours each week to maintaining and refining its environmental management system (EMS), reflecting a proactive approach to environmental management.
As a further initiative, the company collaborates with waste collection services at least once a month to ensure responsible disposal and recycling practices.
The business conducts regular audits of both its quality management system (QMS) and EMS. These audits verify that Powdertech adheres to ISO 14001’s stringent standards and is constantly improving its systems and processes.
According to Powdertech, powder coating is a ‘greener’ process than wet paint. It is free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), non-toxic, and uses less energy and water than other coating methods. By aligning with the best practices defined under ISO 14001, customers and partners of Powdertech can rest assured that the company’s operations prioritise sustainability and environmental responsibility. ISO 14001 certification demonstrates Powdertech’s dedication to delivering high-quality products and services, while minimising the impact on the planet.
“For Powdertech, ISO 14001 is more than a certification, it’s a reflection of our values,” concludes Phil Tyler. “Together, we’re building a greener and a more sustainable future for our business.”
