GEA Group names WEG Best Supplier in Sustainability

GEA Group, founded in 1881 in Germany and one of the world’s largest suppliers of systems and components for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, has named WEG its ‘Best Supplier in Sustainability’. Selected from 200 companies, WEG received the award last month at the 2026 GEA Supplier Summit in Amsterdam, Netherlands In total, GEA honoured winners across five categories.
The recognition follows WEG’s ‘Best Supplier in Innovation’ award in 2023. The partnership between WEG and GEA Group began in 2009 and has since become a benchmark for the supply of innovative and sustainable solutions to the market. In June, Time Magazine ranked GEA the most sustainable company in Germany and 17th in the world.
In an official statement, GEA recognised its partners as essential to achieving its sustainability goals, particularly the reduction of Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
“Strong partnerships combine capabilities, create measurable value and help both sides achieve more than they could alone,” the company stated.
Daniel Godinho, WEG’s Vice President of Sustainability and Institutional Relations, added: “Recognition from one of the most sustainable companies in the world, GEA, is a great source of pride and confirms that our actions are aligned with market demands. We’re truly supporting our customers, whom we thank for trusting our solutions and best practices.”
Progress in sustainability
The award builds on WEG’s wider sustainability progress. Since 2023, WEG has held an EcoVadis Gold Medal. With each assessment cycle, the company has continuously improved its scores across the four evaluated metrics: environment, ethics, labour and human rights, and sustainable procurement.
In 2025, 71% of WEG’s revenue came from sustainable products. Alongside its product portfolio, WEG is also reducing the environmental impact of its own operations.
To drive decarbonisation, the company launched the WEG Carbon Neutral Programme in 2022, which has already resulted in a 32% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions, advancing toward the goal of a 52% reduction by 2030. The approach has independent validation: in 2025, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approved WEG’s short-term emission reduction targets.
Transparency about the environmental impact of products is another priority. WEG is the first company in the world to have an approved tool for issuing Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), certified in 2025. The EPD is a standardised, internationally recognised document that presents environmental information about a product throughout its entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction to final disposal.
