WEG becomes first in the world to launch a fully pre-verified system for issuing EPDs for electric motors

Reinforcing its pioneering spirit, WEG says it has become the first company in the world to develop its own system, verified by EPD International AB, for issuing environmental product declarations (EPD) for electric motors.

The tool, ‘WEG EcoHub Version 1.0’, is based on ‘PCR 2022:06 – Electric Motors and Generators and their Parts (for Industrial Applications)’ – and is designed for publishing EPDs in the EPD International system in compliance with ISO 14025. The achievement sets a new global benchmark for transparency and sustainability in the electric motor market.

EPDs are standardised and verified documents that describe the environmental performance of a product throughout its entire lifecycle — from raw material extraction to final disposal. These environmental declarations are widely recognised and provide transparency and reliability, enabling companies and consumers to make more conscious choices aligned with their sustainable development in goals and CO2e reduction targets.

“Our own system for generating EPDs offers transparency into the lifecycle of our products, empowering customers to make informed decisions and choose the most efficient solutions for their operations,” explains Rodrigo Fumo, Managing Director of Industrial Motors at WEG. “Certifying our system shows our commitment to minimising environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future.”

With the approval of its fully pre-verified EPD generation system, the company allows consumers to access verified information about the environmental impacts of its electric motors.

Portfolio of certified products

WEG has a certified EPD for its W22, W51HD and W23 Sync+ motor lines. This progress emphasises the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding certified and environmentally responsible solutions for the global market.
