Sandvik Coromant’s UK headquarters is shaping the future of manufacturing

Metal cutting and manufacturing solutions expert Sandvik Coromant says it is setting new benchmarks with its Halesowen Sandvik Coromant Centre, which according to the company is now recognised as a central hub for UK machining innovation. Designed to meet the evolving needs of industry, the centre brings together advanced tooling, digital solutions and deep application knowledge to accelerate progress for partners across aerospace, automotive, energy and general engineering.
As part of Sandvik Coromant’s global network, Halesowen plays a pivotal role in supporting British manufacturing — fostering an environment where the future of manufacturing is being shaped through cutting-edge innovation and strategic partnerships. Based at the Black Country site since 1958, a new building opened in 2023 in the same location. Home to many of the Sandvik Coromant UK team, the centre also acts as a hub for training, networking, product demonstrations and collaboration.
Visitors can expect more than tooling support — they experience Sandvik Coromant’s philosophy of ‘manufacturing wellness’, an approach to improving productivity, reducing waste and working more sustainably across every area of the supply chain. With expert guidance and live demonstrations, manufacturers can also learn how to optimise their metal cutting processes with practical advice.

The centre also enhances Sandvik Coromant’s total offering as a provider of advanced digital services and automation technologies. Following significant investment, the facility houses two state-of-the-art education stations equipped with a five-axis DMG Mori DMU 80 eVo milling machine and a Mazak Integrex i-200S AG lathe, along with a dedicated digital area, enabling live demonstrations and remote support as well as digital training sessions that extend the centre’s global reach.
In the past year, Halesowen has welcomed thousands of visitors as part of a calendar of projects, training sessions and events tailored to the UK manufacturing landscape.
“Halesowen not only showcases cutting-edge metal cutting technology, it’s also shaping the future of UK manufacturing,” says Nick Goater, Cluster Manager for UK and Ireland at Sandvik Coromant. “This facility represents our commitment to supporting the industry with the tools, skills and strategies needed to thrive in a rapidly changing landscape.”
He continues: “It’s more than a technical centre; it’s a transformation hub. By combining our tooling expertise with digital innovation and customer collaboration, we’re creating a unique space where UK manufacturers can find solutions to their challenges and accelerate their growth. It also creates a culture where meaningful connections happen, one that brings together industry peers, engineers and global experts to generate new opportunities and collaborative breakthroughs.”
The pace of activity at the centre will remain strong throughout 2025, with plans to host events for the next iteration of product releases for distributors, and a technology and automation open house titled ’Reimagining the future: Shaping tomorrow through technology, digital innovation & automation’, with support from a strong line up of partners such as Kuka, Mastercam UK, MSP, Renishaw, Siemens, Vericut and Zoller.
