Raising the standard for automotive inspection

In the automotive sector, where safety meets design, quality control is non-negotiable. For Marelli, one of the world’s leading tier-one suppliers, ensuring flawless rear light assemblies requires precision at every stage of production. When the company sought to reinforce inspection capability for plastic components on a high-volume line in Tanger Automotive City (TAC), Morocco, Vision Engineering and technical partner DOGA Maroc stepped in with a solution designed to thrive at production speed.
Rear lighting housings are particularly demanding to manufacture. They combine complex curves, varying surface textures and strict visual standards. Any deviation, from weld lines and inclusions to sink marks or flash, can compromise the assembly’s appearance and, by extension, the vehicle brand’s promise of quality. Marelli needed a measurement system that not only delivered micron-level precision, but also fit seamlessly into the daily rhythm of a fast-moving shop floor.
To meet these requirements, the company selected Vision Engineering’s Swift PRO Edge, a compact digital measuring system engineered for both accuracy and agility. Unlike traditional metrology equipment typically confined to a lab environment, Swift PRO Edge is designed to operate close to production, allowing teams to verify part quality quickly without slowing output.
DOGA Maroc and Vision Engineering provided on-site installation and calibration, ensuring the transition into full-scale production was smooth and disruption-free. From the outset, operators responded to the system’s screen-based workflow, which offers a more intuitive and consistent inspection experience than optical eyepiece systems. Real-time imaging and rapid decision-making have turned inspection from a bottleneck into a contributor to process efficiency.
Today, Swift PRO Edge is used daily on Marelli’s dedicated lighting line. Measurements once delayed for laboratory confirmation now happen just steps away from the moulding and assembly process. Defects are caught earlier, compliance checks are completed faster and surface-related concerns, traditionally challenging for digital metrology, are assessed with clarity and repeatability.
The change has been especially impactful for injection-moulded plastics, where visual perception is as critical as dimensional accuracy. The system’s micron-level measurement capability, combined with high-definition digital imaging, allows operators to inspect both geometry and surface quality in a single workflow. The result is greater control over scrap, fewer downstream rejections and a high degree of confidence that every shipment meets the exacting standards of multiple global automotive brands.
For Marelli, this deployment serves not only as an inspection upgrade, but as a step forward in production resilience. On a site where speed and quality collide on a daily basis, Swift PRO Edge provides a reliable bridge between the two.
