Mitsubishi Materials unveils ASX300 high-efficiency face and shoulder milling cutter

Mitsubishi Materials has launched its ASX300 series, a new smaller size generation of the established ASX400 series. The smaller series incudes milling cutters designed to deliver stable, high-performance face and shoulder milling even under demanding cutting conditions. The ASX300 combines advanced cutting-edge geometry with a downsized, multi-tooth design to improve productivity, surface finish quality and machining efficiency significantly.
The ASX300 features a high-density multi-tooth cutter body, enabling higher table feed rates compared with conventional milling tools. This increased tooth count allows machinists to shorten machining cycles while maintaining controlled cutting loads per insert. The result is faster machining, lower energy consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions, supporting both productivity and sustainability goals.
A key innovation of the ASX300 is its continuous cutting edge with an integrated R-wiper geometry, which enhances surface quality by minimising machining marks. The optimised cutting edge profile ensures smooth chip flow and higher dimensional accuracy of machined components. Tests have demonstrated significantly improved wall surface accuracy, reducing maximum step height from approximately 20 µm to as low as 6 µm during shoulder milling operations.
The tool’s reinforced cutting edge geometry increases edge strength and resistance to damage, allowing stable machining even under heavy cutting loads or challenging applications. Enhanced chip evacuation further contributes to reliable operation and longer tool life.
To support a wide range of materials and machining conditions, the ASX300 system is compatible with a wide range of advanced insert grades. These include wear-resistant and thermally stable coatings optimised for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials and difficult-to-cut materials.
Available in arbor, screw-in and shank-type configurations, the ASX300 offers versatility for face milling, shoulder milling, slotting and pocket machining. With its combination of high feed capability, improved surface finishes and extended tool life, Mitsubishi Materials says the ASX300 milling cutter delivers a powerful productivity upgrade for today’s competitive machining environments.
