Machining of Titanium Alloys
Machining titanium alloys, specifically difficult-to-cut grades, is a challenging procedure. To improve machining performance, manufacturers of titanium components require highly efficient cutting tool solutions which demand innovative geometries for advanced cutting materials.
ISCAR introduced IC716 – a new coated carbide grade, specifically developed for high-performance machining titanium alloys with indexable milling cutters. IC716 is characterized by a tough cemented carbide substrate and a new ceramic PVD coating with a smooth surface. The substrate is highly resistant to thermal cracks while the coating features high hardness. The advantageous combination substantially improves insert wear resistance which in turn improves machining, efficiency and reliability.
