Key Milestone for Sheffield Forgemasters

The first of 11 large, custom-built Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs), designed for Sheffield Forgemasters’ proposed new machining facility, has successfully completed a milestone Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) ahead of its shipment to the UK. The machine, a ProfiTurn 6500/120Y, was designed and built by German machining specialist WaldrichSiegen to meet Sheffield Forgemasters’ exacting requirements.
John Cocker, Recapitalisation Machine Tool Lead at Sheffield Forgemasters, commented:
“The completion of factory acceptance testing for our first new VTL is a critical milestone for Sheffield Forgemasters and underpins our confidence in WaldrichSiegen to deliver the remaining machines for our recapitalisation programme. To see a machine of this scale and complexity assembled and tested to such exacting standards is a very exciting development for us and for UK manufacturing.”
