ITC Introduce carbide boring bar from BIG KAISER for fast, accurate roughing

As a world leader in premium high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalworking industries, BIG KAISER has now introduced two new MW rough boring bars. Manufactured from carbide, the new boring bars are available in the UK from Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC). Offered by the UK’s premier manufacturer of cutting tools, the new MW rough boring bars will deliver significantly improved precision levels when compared to steel alternatives by reducing vibration and chatter.

Typically, cylindrical boring bars are manufactured from steel and this has the disadvantage of creating considerable deflection and vibration during operation. By using carbide, which has four times the density of steel, flexing is decreased by a factor of more than 16. This greatly reduces vibration. The reduction in deflection means that carbide tools are much more precise and exhibit reduced levels of chatter. This provides manufacturers with much better machining results when compared to other boring head materials. Furthermore, this enhanced rigidity enables extremely fast roughing operations that will massively increase productivity levels.

In addition, the application of carbide instead of steel will prolong the life of the cutting tools, as there is less runout and reduced wear. Carbide boring bars deliver precise levels of concentricity whilst their excellent perpendicularity (straightness) optimises runout performance. The MW rough boring bars also deliver outstanding anti-chatter performance that improves surface quality.

“Carbide anti-vibration boring bars are important tool accessories for CNC machining because they solve the problem of working accuracy and stability that can lead to vibration when machining. With these two new boring bars, our customers can take full advantage of the benefits of carbide technology,” said Giampaolo Roccatello, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for Europe at BIG KAISER.

MW rough boring bars are straight-shank indexable rough boring tools for small diameters with dimensions based upon the BIG KAISER 319 SW series. The new carbide boring bars are suitable for the rough machining of through holes with diameters from 16 to 21mm.
