Inside ADGRIND: Growth, grit and grinding expertise

From modest beginnings in 2003 to a technically driven business in 2026, ADGRIND’s journey reflects both the resilience of UK manufacturing and the importance of adapting to customer needs.

From sales agent to solutions provider

Peter Harding founded ADGRIND as a regional sales agent for Studer grinding machines, covering the southwest of the UK and south Wales. Initially, the company focused purely on machine sales. However, Peter quickly realised customers needed more than equipment. They needed tooling, consumables and practical guidance to get the best results.

“That’s where we could really add value,” he states. “Helping customers put it all together became just as important as selling the machines.”

Over the years, ADGRIND has grown into a multi-supplier operation, offering machines, grinding wheels, abrasives, dressing tools and ancillary equipment. The business has moved from being a simple sales intermediary to providing full technical solutions for customers at every stage of the grinding process.

A key part of ADGRIND’s development has been the brands it represents and the breadth of technology that customers can access. From the outset, the company has worked with leading European manufacturers to build a portfolio that supports a wide range of grinding applications.

ADGRIND is the UK and Ireland agent for Studer cylindrical grinding machines, recognised worldwide for their precision and reliability, and for surface and profile grinding equipment from Blohm Jung. On the abrasives side, the company supplies high‑performance vitrified CBN and diamond wheels from Meister Abrasives and Alfons Schmeier Abrasives, and is the exclusive agent for precision live and dead centres and face drivers from Karl Bruckner. The portfolio is further strengthened by Technica centre-hole grinding machines and a broad range of bonded and coated abrasives from Saint‑Gobain Abrasives brands like Norton, Flexovit and Baystate. Alongside these established lines, ADGRIND stocks dressing tools and essential consumables, allowing customers to benefit from a truly integrated offering that supports both everyday production and specialist applications.

Rather than sourcing machines and accessories from multiple suppliers, customers can rely on ADGRIND to deliver integrated solutions backed by technical knowledge.

Growth driven by technical expertise

While this product range has been important, ADGRIND’s real strength lies in its technical capability. The company has developed a reputation for hands-on support, working closely with customers to specify grinding wheels, optimise processes and solve challenges. This consultative approach has helped build long-term relationships and repeat business.

Tooling and consumables now generate more turnover than machine sales, reflecting the growing importance of ongoing process optimisation. By focusing on technical service, ADGRIND differentiates itself in a competitive market and adds value far beyond simply supplying products.

A move to match ambition

ADGRIND’s recent relocation to new premises, four times the size of its previous site, highlights its steady expansion. The new facility provides more stock, improved working space and faster service responsiveness.

“When I started, it was just a home office,” recalls Peter. “Now, we have a proper facility, a warehouse and a dedicated team. It’s been a steady progression but one that reflects the way the business has grown alongside its customers.”

Maintaining stock and quick delivery has been essential, particularly during challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic when reliability and availability became even more critical.

ADGRIND operates with a compact team of five, each handling key responsibilities across sales, technical support and administration. Peter remains closely involved in technical consultations while the team ensures customer enquiries, orders and applications are managed efficiently. This hands-on agile approach allows customers to deal with knowledgeable staff who understand their requirements and provide tailored solutions.

With new premises and a strong customer base, ADGRIND is well positioned for the future. Peter remains confident: “We’ve built the business around helping customers get the best out of their processes. As long as we keep doing that, there’s plenty of opportunity.”

From a one-man agency to a trusted technical partner, ADGRIND has grown steadily by combining technical knowledge, service and adaptability. What started as a modest operation has become a company that manufacturers across the UK and Ireland can rely on, demonstrating how expertise and understanding customer needs can turn steady growth into lasting success.
