PSL Datatrack software drives growth at Jota Advanced Engineering

From humble beginnings with four CNC machines and a handful of spreadsheets, Jota Advanced Engineering has evolved into a high-performing precision engineering business with 17 CNC machines and ambitious plans for further expansion. Central to this transformation has been Jota’s partnership with PSL Datatrack, a provider of modular production control software for subcontract precision engineers, and AvISO Consultancy, a specialist in ISO9001 implementation and compliance. Together, these collaborations have helped Jota streamline operations, embed a data-driven culture and achieve ISO9001 certification, while maintaining the agility and precision rooted in its motorsport heritage.
Ryan Goodger, Managing Director of Jota, shares his reflections on the company’s early days: “We were new to the sector, but we approached every project with the same rigour as our race team: fast turnaround, attention to detail and uncompromising quality. That ethos has carried through every stage of our growth.”
Combined with the operational discipline enabled by PSL Datatrack’s software, this mindset has been fundamental to Jota’s success. Before implementing a centralised system, Jota relied on spreadsheets and basic document management to handle quoting, order processing and production scheduling. While effective initially, these manual processes soon became a barrier to growth. Limited visibility, duplicated data and the risk of human error made it increasingly difficult to scale efficiently.
In 2016, following a meeting at that year’s MACH exhibition in Birmingham and an onsite demonstration, Jota adopted PSL Datatrack.
Geoff Gartland, Managing Director of PSL Datatrack, says: “Jota was performing well, but manual systems can only take you so far. PSL Datatrack gave the company real-time control over production, from quoting and works orders to scheduling and shop floor data collection. That’s when the next phase of growth began.”
The modular nature of the software allowed Jota to implement essential functionality first, such as quoting, job tracking and inventory management, before adding more advanced modules. Customised reporting provided clear management insight, while the introduction of Status Boards live visual displays made production data visible to the entire team.
“Status Boards bring data to life,” Ryan explains. “Everyone understands priorities, and production becomes a team effort rather than information sitting in one person’s head.”
Shop-floor data collection further enhanced visibility, enabling Jota to monitor cycle times, output, scrap and corrective actions in real time. This data-driven approach has supported continuous improvement across manufacturing, scheduling and process optimisation.
Alongside operational improvements, Jota recognised that ISO9001 certification would underpin sustainable growth. AvISO Consultancy has worked with the business since 2016, supporting its transition to ISO9001:2015 and the ongoing optimisation of its management system. Rather than treating compliance as a bureaucratic exercise, AvISO helped embed ISO 9001 as a practical tool for improvement.
Paul Stevens, Managing Director of AvISO, says: “ISO 9001 builds credibility, streamlines tendering and embeds accountability. For a growing business like Jota, it’s not just about compliance, it’s a framework for continual improvement supported by evidence.”
The integration of PSL Datatrack and ISO9001 has delivered tangible results. Since 2016, Jota has grown from a 3,000 sq. ft. facility with four machines to a 15,000 sq. ft. site housing 17 CNC machines, expanding capacity, improving quality and entering new sectors such as aerospace while continuing to serve motorsport and automotive customers.
“PSL Datatrack sits behind everything we do,” says Ryan. “From quotation to invoice, every step is controlled, recorded and visible. It helps us identify what works, where we can improve and how to apply that learning across the business. It’s a huge enabler of growth.”
Today, with infrastructure, systems and expertise firmly in place, Jota is positioned to double in size again, while maintaining traceability, quality and efficiency. The company’s journey demonstrates how strategic investment in software, standards and partnerships can transform operational performance and drive sustainable growth.
