DXAS exchangeable head drills

The new DXAS drills from Mitsubishi Materials have revolutionised the head replacement type. Dramatically reduced running costs have been realised due to a new level of machining accuracy and efficiency comparable to that of solid carbide drills.
Strong and Accurate Clamping System
The combination of two clamping screws and the accuracy of the clamping contact faces enables high-strength fastening of the head to the drill body, ensuring it is less likely to loosen. This extra strength provides reliability even in high-stress machining environments. The extra strength is an advancement on conventional types, but extra strength is not useful unless the holes that are drilled can maintain positional and diametrical tolerance accuracy. Therefore, the DXAS design incorporates a perfect centering feature that minimises any misalignment of the central axes of the head and holder after fastening. This centering achieves a hole precision comparable to that of a solid carbide drill. During development it was soon established that an excellent cylindricity of 0.05 mm of the finish drilled holes set a high benchmark.
DP6020 coated grade with excellent hardness and resistance to heat
By adding Si, the coating hardness and the temperature at which oxidation started to occur were significantly raised. This multi-layer coating structure also improves wear and crack resistance during cutting and provides excellent wear resistance even during high-speed, high feed machining.
New Through Coolant Holes
Re-imagined through coolant holes in each flute are positioned to eject coolant directly onto the cutting edge. This has the added benefits of efficient cooling, chip ejection and aids tool life.
XR Point Thinning
The XR point geometry curls chips effectively and enables excellent chip separation and flow to avoid jamming of the flutes. The low resistance design achieves highly efficient machining and reduces power consumption.
Availability
The DXAS drills are ideal for machining, mild, carbon and alloy steels, as well as cast iron and are available from Ø18 mm up to Ø30 mm in lengths suitable for 1.5 x D up to 8 x D cutting depths.
