Big capacity, precise results at subcontract specialist

Mills CNC has supplied Complete Engineering Services, a precision subcontract specialist based in Carlisle, with a new DN Solutions DNM 6700XL large-capacity vertical machining centre. The machine features a Detron 4th-axis rotary table and Siemens 828D control with ShopMill conversational programming software.

The DNM 6700XL was installed at the 12,000 ft² facility of Complete Engineering Services in June 2026. Today, the machine is already busy producing a range of large, complex, high-precision components for customers in sectors that include motorsport, timber processing, power generation, renewables, fluid sealing systems, packaging and rail.

Notably, the DNM 6700XL is the company’s second CNC machine tool acquired from Mills CNC. The first being a Lynx 2600Y multi-tasking lathe that arrived in June 2024.

The positive experience of Complete Engineering Services with its Lynx 2600Y – and with Mills CNC – led it to invest in the DN Solutions DNM 6700XL long-bed CNC vertical machining centre.

Investment catalyst

As part of its continuous improvement programme, the company made the decision, in late 2025, to replace a 15-year-old heavy-duty machining centre used to process large, complex parts with a new, faster and more powerful machine.

“The older machine was getting a bit long in the tooth, was more prone to breakdown and the operator dedicated to run it was about to retire,” remembers Managing Director Andrew Monkhouse. “The DNM 6700XL from Mills CNC is an impressive machine and its technical specifications fitted the bill.”

A closer look

Featuring an 18.5 kW/12,000 rpm spindle (117.8 Nm) with 20 bar coolant capability, the DNM 6700XL offers axis travels of 2,100 x 670 x 625 mm in X, Y and Z respectively, and a 2,200 x 670 mm worktable with 1,300 kg maximum load.

Delivering 30 m/min rapid traverse rates in its linear axes and a 40-tool position automatic tool changer, the machine supplied to Complete Engineering Services also features the Siemens 828D control, a Detron GXA-255H rotary table with 10-inch chuck, Renishaw tool and workpiece probing systems, and a Filtermist extraction unit.

Since installation, the DNM 6700XL has seen use machining a range of long, shaft-type components. It’s currently occupied machining 30 stainless steel dead-plates.

The Lynx 2600Y multi-tasking lathe and new DNM 6700XL machining centre are paying real dividends at Complete Engineering Services, helping the company improve its productivity, process efficiencies and profitability. The partnership with Mills CNC now looks set to continue well into the future.
